GC TRIO Upward Bound students volunteer at PMOS and Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness Walk

Galveston College TRIO Upward Bound students and staff volunteered at the Second Annual PCOS/PMOS and Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness Walk on Sept. 5, 2026 at the Menard Park in Galveston.

The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness, build support and share resources about PMOS, or Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome, formerly known as PCOS or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, and Sickle Cell Anemia. The event helps spotlight women’s metabolic/endocrine health and blood disorder advocacy.

The walk and the awareness presentation was organized by Limesha Solomon, Galveston College TRIO Upward Bound Class of 2007. She has collaborated with Reedy Chapel AME Church which is providing resources for patients and families.

Solomon, who is a faculty member at Sam Houston State University and a published children’s book author, shared some motivational words with the college’s TRIO Upward Bound students during the presentation. She encouraged them to continue their academic journey and always remember to continue giving back to the community.
