Available Aid
Galveston College’s financial aid program helps students who may not be able to pay for higher education on their own. While students and their families should pay most of the costs, the college understands that sometimes extra help is needed. If students show they need financial help, the college will try to provide support using local, state, and federal funds.
Grants
Grants are funds that you do not have to repay unless you withdraw from school or owe a refund. They are awarded to students with financial need. The amount you receive depends on factors such as the cost of attendance, your family’s contribution (or student aid index), your enrollment status, and whether you attend for the full academic year. Galveston College offers two types of grants: federal grants and state grants from Texas.

Students loans, unlike grants and work-study, are borrowed funds that must be repaid, with interest. Galveston College participates in the Federal Direct Loan Program.

Scholarships are financial gifts that you do not need to repay. They are given by many sources, such as schools, employers, people, companies, nonprofits, communities, religious groups, and organizations. Many students use scholarships to help pay for costs like tuition, fees, books, supplies, meals, and housing.

The work-study program helps eligible students gain work experience and earn money while attending school. Through this program, students can work part-time to help support their education.

Texas offers programs that can help pay for college tuition through exemptions and waivers. These programs are approved by the state Legislature and are available to specific groups of students.
